Great place for food, drink, and the otherwise. This is obviously a Japanese influenced store, so you can find great items that are necessary for the creation of Japanese and other Asian dishes. They also have a very good selection of pre-made bentos, sushi, sashimi, and meals, making it the perfect place to grab something when you are on the run or don't want to take the time to prepare dinner. Recommended.

This Marukai is located immediately adjacent to Daiso with easy access and copious parking. On the weekends, there are vendors who offer samples. The selections are not as vast as the Marukai on Artesia, but I can still find plenty of bento boxes and Japanese grocery items here for a good price.

Not as large as the Marukai in Gardena, but it gets the job done. We were visiting Daiso Japan next door and decided to drop by this Marukai location. They offer a lot of the same items as other Marukai locations. This location is neat and organized. The basics are all there. Employees are quick. Best part of this location is that the lines are shorter. You'll be in and out in no time.

Neat place! With every Japanese food treasure that can fit in a tiny grocery. Upon entry at Marukai, enthusiastic Japanese sales ladies thrust something toward us exclaiming in Japanese, and to me they said "Sweet, Sweet! You want!" Suddenly, I do. In English this would be annoying. But in another language, it's entertaining! The sweets were shaped like a river rock and nestled in a candy leaf, packaged in a sushi container. This was worth the trip by itself! Not sweet by western standards, but very fun and quite a delicacy. One young sales lady said, "Made in Japan!" The other smiled and shook her head no. Hilarious! For its tiny size, Marukai has a good selection of sake, noodles, frozen food, deserts, a couple isles of canned & bottled somethings, and a phenomenal little bakery. Not much is translated, so you know it's some real stuff. I was disappointed by their sushi. Good prices and fresh, but like everything else, very limited in quantity and selection. The operation is stuck in a very small area, and the chef is somewhat hidden from view. What, is he Mexican? Great prices for sushi catering. It's close by and convenient, but don't come with much of a list. The size reminds me of a big AM/PM store.

While this Marukai isn't as massive as other Marukai markets I've been to, they definitely do pack a lot of stuff in to the amount of space. They also do have enough parking, which is definitely important for the west side. They don't have a hot food section with a sit down area like at Mitsuwa, but they do have a prepared food section with onigiri, sashimi/sushi boxes, rice boxes. They also have a beauty section, a houseware section (bowls, plates, utensils), a home section (think slippers, household items, etc), a "Hawaiian" section with a bunch of foods from Hawaii. The fresh produce and meat section isn't as large but it's good enough for me! They also have a HELLO KITTY SECTION!!! The Hello Kitty could pretty much be its own store, with how much stuff they have crammed into the one corner nook area. They definitely do make the most use of their space, and samples are offered in various locations like in Costco.

Over the years I forgot about the awesomeness of Marukai. Then my special somebody drove back just to surprise me with lunch from this place. After a long goodbye, it's even harder saying it twice, he really left for his long drive back home. Their sushi box which had an assortment of 6-7 things were all fresh and yummy. I also enjoyed their croquette sandwich with super soft bread and a perfectly breaded potato croquette. My sandwich was missing something, protein came to mind. So I cooked a few slices of ham to fold in and voila, even better. For dessert, my annis tofu was smooth and cool with a light mango flavor. It was very subtle in sweetness and had me savoring each bite. Their strawberry shortcake had a whipped texture, fluffy. The strawberry slices were mixed in with super soft cake crumbs on top. Fast forward a month and I was craving their sushi and strawberry shortcake. I got their spicy tuna and strawberry shortcake for under $8. They offer decent sushi at a great price. Their desserts are light, delicious, and inexpensive. I'm coming back soon for more of both.
